KHB Attended the UN Roundtable Meeting on HIV/AIDS

On 9 October 2008 (New York Time), invited by Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Mr. Tang Weiguo, Board Chairman of KHB, and Dr. Wang Man, Deputy General Manager, attended the roundtable meeting between the United Nations and seventeen world’s leading pharmaceutical and diagnostic companies working on HIV/AIDS. All participants reviewed progress on enhancing individual and collective efforts to expand access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support services in low-and middle-income countries. They also discussed the measures for further cooperation on HIV/AIDS between the United Nations and the private sector. After the roundtable meeting, the Secretary-General issued a statement and all participants have committed to tackle HIV/AIDS based on greater cooperation.


As the largest HIV diagnostic reagent manufacturer in China, KHB is the only Chinese company invited to the meeting. Other sixteen world’s leading pharmaceutical and diagnostic companies including Abbott, Johnson & Johnson and Merck attended the meeting, along with representatives from the United Nations World Health Organization (WHO), the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the Joint UN Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS).


KHB has established partnerships with various international organizations. And our efforts to develop and provide high quality, competitive priced HIV diagnostics has contributed to HIV prevention, treatment and care:

● KHB has launched series HIV detection products including EIA kit, Colloidal Gold kit and PCR kit for routine screening, emergency diagnosis and monitoring the efficacy of therapy.

● KHB has distinguished itself on the international qualification evaluations. For example, KHB passed the evaluations conducted by WHO, CDC of U.S.A, Central America, Cameroon, Malawi, Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda with flying colors. All these demonstrate the high quality of KHB’s products meeting international quality standards.

● KHB has maintained the close partnerships with the United Stations and other international non-government organizations. In particular, KHB is one of the global suppliers of HIV diagnostic reagents for WHO, UNICEF, UNAIDS, PEPFAR, Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative and IDA HIV/AIDS Group.

● KHB has registered HIV diagnostics globally. To date, KHB has presented its high-quality HIV diagnostic products at competitive price to over twenty-two countries and regions.


Building on its programmes and initiatives, KHB has committed to:

● Invest further in research and development of new HIV-related diagnostic technologies.

● Further strengthen the staff training and maintenance of laboratory equipments.

● Register HIV diagnostic products as widely as possible.

● Warrant reliable and sustainable delivery of quality-assured products.


KHB will boost efforts to tackle HIV/AIDS together with the United Nations and other global pharmaceutical and diagnostic companies.
